How difficult is it for a total beginner to "renovate" a bathroom?

We have a very small bathroom and would like to update it by putting in a smaller sink and vanity or Pedestal sink, a smaller toilet, new lighting fixtures, a new door (and frame assuming that we want the door to open in the complete opposite direction---currently opens inward to the right and we want it to open outward to the left to give the bathroom more space, and new tile flooring. We have installed fans and things like that before but nothing compared to this bathroom project. We can get some professional help but would prefer to save some money by doing what we can ourselves. Is it difficult for a total beginner? Which items would you recommend professional help with?

This will be easy to do and help is always right around the corner at any of those big box stores. There's often info on bathroom remodels in those stores. There are all sorts of remodel supplies in those places, go there and just look around. We just did our bathroom and it turned out great! Wife's happy too!
