Water damage to 2005 mobile home floor?
My 4 year old soaked his entire bedroom floor(carpet) through with water. I've used towels, a shop vac, and carpet cleaner to soak up the water and put box fans all around the room. But the pad underneath the carpet is soaked through to the wood below as well. What should I do? Should I rip up the carpet and pad and just replace it with linoleum or can the carpet be saved?
If it's a fairly new carpet, then yes it can be saved.
But you must replace your padding.
This cannot be saved.
You have to pull the carpet up and out,
remove the padding and throw it away,
then put the carpet back in without any padding and secure it using a staple gun all around the perimeter of the room leaving an opening just big enough to stick the blower of a carpet dryer in,
(you can rent these at Home Depot).
Then turn the fan on for a day or so till the carpet is dry making sure the staples don't get loose or the carpet will start flapping around and start unraveling.
The middle of the floor should rise up like a big lava bubble.
Then, when it's dry, remove all the staples, pull it out again, install the new padding, and re-stretch the carpet.
I know it sounds like a lot of work but it's really the only way to save the carpet.
